That by two immutable things, in which it was impossible for God to lie, we might have a strong consolation, who have fled for refuge to lay hold upon the hope set before us: Which hope we have as an anchor of the soul, both sure and stedfast, and which entereth into that within the veil (Heb 6:18-19). The Bible says that hope is the anchor of our soul and it is both sure and steadfast. It is steadfast, unchangeable and enters within the veil of God’s presence. Jesus Christ showed himself as a pattern of that hope. He has gone within the veil. He has also been made the High Priest of a priesthood that cannot be changed, after the order of Melchizedek. These facts are the guarantee of the steadfast hope that we possess in Christ. The Scriptures also identify hope as one of the three major forces that exist. (1 Corinthians 13:13) Psalm 78:1-4 says,’ Give ear, O my people, to my law: incline your ears to the words of my mouth. I will open my mouth in a parable: I will utter dark sayings of old: Which we have heard and known, and our fathers have told us. We will not hide them from their children, shewing to the generation to come the praises of the LORD, and his strength, and his wonderful works that he hath done. In this verse the author talked about revealing mysteries that were the secrets behind the success of the patriarchs in their covenant walk with God. These mysteries were about the praises of the Lord, His strength and of the wonderful things that He had done. These mysteries gave birth to the miraculous events which unfolded in Jacob’s life, events like the supernatural explosion of Laban’s business (which Laban himself testified to) (Gen 30:27). These secrets were also at work in the lives of Abraham, Isaac, Joseph and other patriarchs. The importance of these laws caused God to instruct the fathers of old to pass them to the generations after. For he established a testimony in Jacob, and appointed a law in Israel, which he commanded our fathers, that they should make them known to their children: That the generation to come might know them, even the children which should be born who should arise and declare them to their children. (Psalm 78:5-6). This was important because the knowledge of this principle will cause them to remain steadfast in the faith and not become like some of their fathers as stated in verse 7 That they might set their hope in God, and not forget the works of God, but keep his commandments. And might not be as their fathers, a stubborn and rebellious generation a generation that set not their heart aright, and whose spirit was not steadfast with God. The above scripture describes certain individuals who lacked this knowledge and so did not keep God’s covenant because of this, their hearts and spirits were not aligned or consistent with the expectation of their hope. The crucial issue is about a stead-fastness of the mind and spirit. It is a declaration of an individual’s faithfulness in setting his hope in God. It should be understood that we are saved unto a living hope and that it is connected to our soul. The Bible says that it is an anchor of our soul, both sure and steadfast. (Heb 6:18-19).
