The effect of Eternal life on humanity must be visible | 08 2001
For many years man was mystified as to the source of thoughts. Beautiful melodies would float into our consciousness, poetry would come, and solutions to problems that bothered us for days come sometimes to us unsought, unheralded. Inventions and reative things flash into our minds independent of our logical ways of thinking. Designs of structures, beautiful fabrics, great businesses and pictures of the future that stagger
reason come floating a times like a cloud into our minds. We have referred to this as our instincts or just a hunch on the inside of us.
These kinds of thoughts have been probably responsible for the advancement of humanity today. The development experienced in every field of human endeavour can be traced to individuals who have learnt to boldly follow their instincts and to work out a
“logical” plan for the actualisation of their dreams.
The whole of mankind benefits today from this process in the hearts of a few. The pain and destruction we have is really a product of men who are given to envy and jealousy. People who haven’t been creative in the use of the ‘space’ given to them by God but seek to destroy others in order to have their ‘territory’, which was creatively built by them. Jesus referred to them as thieves and robbers who want to enter in by the window. It was Henry Ford who referring to this process that said ‘few people would be bold enough in this life to launch their products and follow their lead, they would simply continue to copy others’. The source of these creative thoughts is the human spirit. Proverbs says ‘the spirit of man is the lamp of Jehovah’. The genius of Christianity is that Eternal life the same quality of life that is in God has been deposited
in our human spirits. From here thoughts that are creative in nature ought to flow out. The light required for the development of humanity is really in us. Into our minds from our spirits ought to flow powerful things. Images of great businesses that are well organised and funded, great architectural designs that would be aesthetically good, structurally sound with a good use of space and yet inexpensive. Thoughts on how funds can be raised and diplomacy perfected ought to be with us. We ought to have thoughts on global transformation. How our environment can be helped, ways in which
shelter and food can be provided for the less privileged. How many can be rightly educated in their minds and spirits to conquer poverty. Eternal Life in our spirits ought to have built concepts on how non profit organisations could be built that would be more powerful than some governments because of the level of help they provide. We should be far beyond our survival instincts and problem consciousness. We should have in our minds a powerful image of success, steady growth in our work and the
possibilities of the future. All these should be a product of the experiences in our past, ‘positive’ or ‘negative’, our words, prayer and the right use of our mind in meditation on the Word of God and the other things we are directly involved in that are positive. For
example our work, books, music, our environment our relationships, family life and issues that have to do with how we can express the love in us and conquer selfishness
Eternal life has very little to do with length of time as many think. It has really to do with a quality of life that is creative in nature.
When the spirit of a man is healthy the individual is full of energy and enthusiasm. Images of the future are clearly built into the consciousness of the person and there is joy in them and a desire to live. When the spirit is broken the heart is heavy, creativity is absent, work is a burden and the future is bleak The mind becomes prone to small things like gossip, backbiting, jealousy, envy and isolation. Eternal life in a spirit like this would find no ground for expression.
This is why we haven’t seen the full effect of this Life in man. The spirit of men that harbour this Life have been broken by painful words spoken to them and by disappointing experiences they have had in the past.
Proverbs says, “A gentle tongue is a tree of life; but perverseness therein is a breaking of the spirit”.
Words affect the human spirit. Your mind may cast aside the unkind words that are spoken, but your spirit absorbs them. Words are more dangerous than bricks or stones. They are more potent than pen or brush. Bones they do not break, but hearts they crush. Job once said “How long will you vex my soul and break me in pieces with words?” Disappointing experiences also have a damaging effect on the heart. “ Hope deferred maketh the heart sick but when the desire cometh it becomes a tree of life”
proverbs says. Failure in our attempt at various projects or relationships can create a negative image within our spirit that would inhibit the flow of this Life.
This has been the reason why we have not seen this Life operate in its creative form on the Earth. Most human spirits are already broken. They have been damaged by words and by wrong responses to ‘negative’ experiences. Words that are spoken by loved ones or those we respect i.e. those in positions of authority in our lives can have a damaging effect upon our hearts. It is important to realize that the greatest healing agent to the human spirit is joy. Restoration of the human spirit to a position where Eternal Life can begin to work within it begins with praise.
The spirit has its root in God and can only function properly if that connection is there.
A merry heart doeth good like medicine. What medicine would do for the body joy born out of praise would do to the heart.
