These all died in faith, not having received the promises, but having seen them afar off, and were persuaded of them, and embraced them, and confessed that they were strangers and pilgrims on the earth. For they that say such things declare plainly that they seek a country. And truly, if they had been mindful of that country from whence they came out, they might have had opportunity to have returned. But now they desire a better country, that is, an heavenly: wherefore God is not ashamed to be called their God: for he hath prepared for them a city.’ Hebrews 11: 13-16
When you start to see something from afar, it should be established that God wants to show up in a situation clearly/visibly because seeing something from afar is often quite different from your present situation. So what is your mind occupied with? This is very important. God says “I have prepared something, I am not ashamed; you desired something else but I have prepared something even better. I am not ashamed to be called your God, put Me to test on this, I have prepared a better city for you’ Paul speaks about God revealing that particular desire to His people so they have the end result in mind and that changes everything that is on going in their lives. It changes the way they walk, interact and the level of joy or lack of it that is occurring in their life at that particular time. What we are mindful of, we pay close attention to, be it as a result of grief from mourning or pain of the past about things that did not quite work out as we expected; these are the things that lay hold to our moving ahead and this hold cannot be severed by our human effort, but solely by asking for God’s wisdom. This involves our asking for God’s knowledge of eternal things concerning the situation to be bestowed on us. Abraham received those things the Lord bestowed on him and he embraced them and he was able to offer Isaac. Also when you begin to receive from God, the way you behave ought to change, as you begin to see things in perspective of what God is about to do in your situation. In the light of this you are quick to forgive anyone’s wrong doing or lack of judgment towards you as you are grounded in the knowledge of what is to come.
Make the choice not to over-analyze things or get emotionally attached to things and situations. This causes pain to be the utterance of the lips you will and still talk about the situation in the context of what was and not what is going to be. The Scripture says in 2nd Corinthians 3: 18 ” But we all, with an open face beholding as in a glass the glory of the Lord, are changed into the same image from glory to glory, even as by the spirit of the Lord” God wants that shift to occur on the inside of you, He says “ when I start revealing these things, they will seem afar off” We want to see how we can bring those things close and then they become part of the conversation that becomes an integral part of our being; the knowledge of what God wants to do. The first step is to ‘count it all joy’, because you already have prior knowledge as God has revealed things to you before the crisis even started. So you can rejoice in light of what is to come. If on the other hand you are caught unawares, then you go to God and prayerfully ask that He reveals the end result in the knowledge of His might, as it is pointless to struggle when you have God.
Remember Jesus did not just struggle through the process of going to the cross for you, He knew what was coming and that is where He got the strength from. God is committed to showing you in detail from the Word of God what is really coming. God wants to show you that once you move off from that place of human consciousness, where you are tightly holding on to something, the occupied state of your hand does not allow you to reach God so you cannot come to the knowledge of what God intends to do in your life in that situation. In 1st Peter 1:3 the bible says “Blessed be the God and Father of our Lord Jesus Christ, which according to His abundant mercy hath begotten us again unto a lively hope by the resurrection of Jesus Christ from the dead” this means that when we got born-again the promise we have entered into is that there is an inheritance, just like a child born into a very wealthy family, its not by any labor or work he has to do nor by any wisdom he possesses but because there is a relationship he has with the man who is his father. God says “I am not ashamed , I am God. I have prepared a city for you, there is something I have prepared for you”;This is the heart of us getting born-again. For example, if you are on the road and you see a five year old who goes to school in a car that cost twenty five million naira and another five year old, holding his three year old sister trying to cross the road and they are almost hit by a car on their way to school, It is not that the five year old in the expensive car necessarily knows more than the boy who is trying to cross the road with his little sister, it is because of relationship- one has a father who has a lot in store and the other has a father that does not have.
When we got born again, we got born into something, This is not something we worked for; rather this is something that was laid in store for us by God. That is why God says we should ‘count it all joy’ because the way the inheritance works is that when pressure comes, then the inheritance can manifest itself; it is invisible and only made visible when the demand is made on it.
